LORI LOVES....SUPERPOWERS!!!

What better way to start a blog than to talk about SUPERPOWERS?!!! My 8 year old asks me at least once a week; "Mom, if you could have any superpower in the world, what would it be?" Then I ask her the same question back, and usually our answers are the same: to FLY!!! And as a parent, that is all we want for our children, to see them fly right?! Well figuratively.
For her birthday this past March, I thought I'd make my daughter a quilt that would constantly remind her of her most important superpower in my opinion: Being a GIRL!!

So lets talk about this quilt for a short minute! If you don't already know, I LOVE RAINBOWS!!! I also love to use solid color fabrics in my quilts. I typically use Country Classic cotton quilt fabrics from Joann Fabrics which works great for this mom on a budget. The letters are made with a paper piecing pattern (more on that in another post) from Diane Bohn of From Blank Pages. It was super fun to make this for her and I hope she keeps it for many years to come!
As my daughter has grown, I try to tell her everyday that she can do ANYTHING, that she can achieve ANYTHING, that there is NO LIMIT to what she can do. I love to see how good she feels about herself when she tries something new. I love watching her work through a task, get frustrated, but still keep going until she's finished.
I see a lot of myself in this little 8 year old girl and in the process of being her biggest cheerleader and motivator, I find it hard sometimes to take my own advice. But at the end of the day, I remember that "FEMALES ARE STRONG AS HELL!" (thank you Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme song!) I want her to not only claim those larger than life superpowers that she wants but to also acknowledge that she has the most coolest superpower already!
So?!!!... What's your superpower???!!!
